8mm Madsen*
*
The 8mm Madsen was developed in the 1890s,*
and adopted by the Danish army in 1903.*
It was one of the very first light machineguns,*
and at the same time very reliable.*
No one has ever used the same system as in the Madsen.*
The Madsen had a unique firing system and was rather*
expensive to make.*
*
The Fodfolkskarabin m/89-24 (Infantry Carbine)*
*
basically a Gevaer m/89 with a chopped barrel and*
rear sights to reflect the new barrel length. They*
began with Rasmussen polygonal rifling, but this was*
quickly abandoned in favor of more conventional*
rifling. They were all converted from Gevaer m/89s*
until 1929, when new ones were first built.*
The Fodfolkskarabin m/89-24 was originally used by*
infantry machinegun companies, then extended to mortar*
units and antitank gun crews.*
